“By placing an object of productive labour (the urinal) in front of an art audience, Duchamp produced a kind of mimetic short-circuit. The actual object of perception now stood in for the object of representation.”

Have been enjoying your blog. Who/Where is this quote from?

Hello! It's really great to hear from you. I think this quote is from John Roberts - The Intangibilities of Form: Deskilling and Reskilling in Art after the Readymade. But I would need to recheck my dissertation to be sure. If you are interested in Duchampian Readymades, this book is wonderful. And even if you aren't terribly interested, it's still a really great book!
